October 26, 2009

Last week I got a special message in my E-mail telling me my E-mail space was full and that I needed to delete some messages. We are only allowed to be on the computer for an hour at the library we were at, and most of the time was spent managing my mail box. I only had 40 seconds left to write you an e-mail that is why it was so short. Sorry...I tell you what though; it has been an exciting past two weeks. Country tracting is a whole new ball game Compared to the past two areas I have been in, and most of this past two weeks has been spent doing that. After our most progressing investigator dropped us finding new investigators has become our priority. (I don't blame her for dropping us, her husband said that if she "became a Mormon" he would leave her, and we are not in the business of breaking up families.)Some of the highlights from tracting were the lady who "bore her testimony" to us, then "spoke in tongues" (Which, honestly, sounded like Klingon to me). Then I had my first experience being bitten by a dog on my mission. It was kind of ironic too. We had just got done playing with this Big Old Bull-Mastiff who looked mean, but he was just big, stupid and playful, when a little yappy dog decided to bite me after we had already knocked on the door and were leaving. He drew a little blood (not enough to be worried about, mom) but didn't rip my pants so I don't think I will have to worry about rabies. (But Elder Dupaix is prepared to shoot me if I start foaming at the mouth)Speaking of, it seems that every door we knock on someone is sick, so no one is able to talk to us. I will be careful not to get sick, is everyone at home alright? I hope no one has "That there pig-flu!" As someone in Alcoa put it.I know said it last week but, I hope you all know that I love you. Take care and write soon. Elder Joseestimony" to us, then "spoke in tongues" (Which, honestly, sounded like Klingon)
I sent an e-mail to Anthony last week because he asked me about my companions. Sorry I didn't send the info to you guys, I thought you already knew. Here you go... "Just a quick note to let you know...I did not train my last companion, Elder Condie, who is from St. George UT, He was however only trained for four weeks before I became his companion. He was held in the MTC for an extra two weeks because of a small outbreak of the swine flu in the MTC while he was there. My new companion Elder Dupaix, from West Jordan UT, Has been out 4-5 months longer than I have. He is the senior companion. He likes to play Lacrosse, his favorite band from back home is Three Eleven, and his favorite movie is Waynes World (the first one)."

Pull out your Maps for this one. Elder Jose is no longer in Tennessee. I am covering Powell Valley in Virginia, "Coal Mine Country". I am staying in a trailer in a small town called Wise, and our Area covers 4 Counties. Elder Dupaix (from West Jordan, UT) and I are clear out in the Boonies! I have to admit though that the scenery is amazing! Do you remember the pictures I sent you from Alcoa, they are nothing compared to this. It is considerably colder here; fortunately I have all my winter gear with me. The ward is pretty small, but the members are amazing, and the general consensus of the people here seems to be considerably more friendly than my last two areas. Sorry there is not a lot to write about at the moment, but I am still learning about my new area so I will keep you informed. In the meantime,
Thank you for your letters and e-mails. I love you all.Elder Jose

It is for sure now, I am leaving Alcoa on Wednesday. I am excited for the progress that has been made here, and that will continue to happen after I leave I am inspired to keep moving forward and bring others to Christ elsewhere in The Great Tennessee Knoxville Mission. I hope you all Enjoyed Conference, I would like to hear which talks impressed you most. Whether it be Monson’s talk on service with its "warm Fuzzies", Choi's talk with his "Loud and Rowdy Boys" Bednar’s talk on strengthening Families or Uchdorf’s talk on overcoming trials.I personally enjoyed Jeffery R. Holland’s strong Testimony of the Book of Mormon, and Neil L. Andersons Sunday Morning Address. I really felt the spirit as I thought of our family being united under a Prophets voice despite being separated by a large distance. I love you all and look forward to hearing your Testimonies.Elder Jose.P.S. Dad! Please, hurry and send me back my new shoes! The ones I have now are terrible! Love Ya!
